FAQs and Philosophy

What is Vintage?

Even though the world is consuming more and more pre-owned fashion, there is unclarity with the terms and what that means. Per definition, something is considered Vintage when it's more than 20 years old. We take the wording very serious and only declare garments as Vintage when that is the case. Vintage does not necessarily mean that the item has been worn, though, we regularly offer garments which we unpacked from its original package and that have never been worn.

Why Vintage?

From our professional background in fashion and costume design, our approach to clothes and quality has shaped. This is why Studio Finis loves to source Vintage, as clothes back then have been produced with a very different approach. Back in the 20th century, when garments have not been a mass production, they were made to last a lot longer. You can really feel the quality of these garments and the difference to newer designs. And, since the time needed to produce and preserve a garment was much higher, the designs were created to be, of course, enduring and timeless. Have you ever wondered why that Zara design bores you after 3-5 times of wearing it? Fast fashion is built on the costumer's urge to want something new all. the. time. We oppose this status quo of the industry and want to encourage Vintage designs, not only for a more sustainable way of consumption, but also for their actual benefits to the costumer. We believe that Vintage no longer is wearing old and outworn clothes, but is part of the future of fashion.

Condition and Condition Chart

As per now, Studio Finis sells only Vintage and secondhand items. Some pieces are pre-owned, while others are unworn and new, and simply have been produced years ago. It is our own personal standard to evaluate the condition of every item truthfully. Every piece goes through an individual quality check to assure a pleasant and trustworthy experience to our costumers. You can check the condition of an item on its individual description. Also the price of a garment is representative for its condition.

Sizing: How will I know if the pieces fit me?

We are aware that online shopping is a different experience than visiting a physical store, which is why we aim to be as transparent as possible. Therefore we are publishing the measurements of each individual piece and present it on different models and body types. Please send us an email if you have any specific questions to an item.

Where are the pieces from?

Each product is hand-selected and personally sourced. Where do we find them? Literally anywhere. We love to share the history of an item with our costumers if we know it, and if not, the storytelling and background of the garments for us is one of the charms of Vintage clothes.
